Welcome to OSPA
A unit of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Dean, OSPA is the University agency for submitting grant proposals and accepting grant awards. We facilitate research and sponsored project activities at SIUC, and administer internal grant programs.
We are located on the second floor of Woody Hall C Wing, 618-453-4540, OSPA@siu.edu. See About OSPA and our FAQ for an orientation to our office. To find information on our site quickly, check the site index. For an overview of research and sponsored projects at SIUC, see the Research Profile.
What's New...
- Limited Submission Notice: NSF MRI (NSF 11-503), internal deadline December 2, 2011. Limit of three proposals per organization. If three proposals are submitted, at least one of the proposals must be for instrument development (i.e., no more than two proposals may be for instrument acquisition). For more information on OSPA’s limited submission policy see limited proposal submissions.
An informational MRI webcast will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 1:00-2:30 in the OSPA conference room, Woody Hall C 227. During the webcast the MRI program, the current MRI solicitation (NSF 11-503), and the FY2012 competition will be discussed. MRI Program Officers will also interactively answer questions submitted by the online audience.
- Please read the Export Control Management Policy and Procedures. Note that OSPA's proposal checklist is currently being modified to
request information that will "frontload" institutional compliance
with this federally mandated policy.
- Workshop Schedule: Please register for the workshop of your choice by phoning 453-4540 or e-mailing OSPA@siu.edu. Please include your name, department, e-mail address and SIU phone number.

- NSF BIO Proposal Processing Changes:
Effective immediately, the Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO)
of the National Science Foundation (NSF) has initiated new procedures
for the submission and review of regular research proposals to the
core programs within the Division of Molecular and Cellular
Biosciences (MCB), Division of Environmental Biology (DEB), and
Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS).
DEB and IOS will both implement an annual cycle of preliminary and
full proposals beginning in January 2012. Preliminary proposals will
be accepted in January. Following review by a panel of outside
experts, each applicant will be notified of a binding decision to
Invite or Not Invite submission of a full proposal. Please note that
each investigator is limited to submitting two preliminary proposals a
year to either Division, whether as a PI, co-PI or lead senior
investigator of a subaward.

- As a reminder, all applications for externally funded grants and contracts must be submitted through the Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (OSPA). Read more...
- As per NSF FastLane: To ensure compliance with the FFATA reporting requirements, and to improve the quality of data associated with the NSF-funded awards, the GPG now specifies that a nine-digit zip code be entered in the applicable cover sheet filed. The nine-digit zip code is validated against the US Postal Service's (USPS) database, which ensures that the location can be accurately identified as well as aligning with the correct congressional district. SIU's nine-digit zip code is 62901-6899. (Please note: 62901-6899 is SIUC’s official US Postal Service’s nine digit zip code; OSPA’s official US Postal Service nine digit zip code is 62901-4302. “4709” is an SIUC Mailcode number.)
